Christmas Stollen 4 Recipe

Directions

  1. Combine 1 cup of the flour, the sugar, yeast, salt, cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg in a mixing bowl.
  2. Place the milk, butter, and water in a saucepan and heat over low heat until warm (120-130 degrees) stirring until the butter melts.
  3. Gradually add the warm milk mixture to the flour.
  4. Beat until smooth, about 2 minutes.
  5. Add the eggs, and 1 cup flour and beat 2 minutes longer.
  6. Add the candied fruit, raisins, and walnuts.
  7. Stir in as much of the remaining flour as possible.
  8. Place dough on a lightly floured surface and knead in remaining flour.
  9. Knead for 10 minutes, until dough is smooth and elastic.
  10. Place dough in greased bowl, cover, and let rise about 1 1/2 hours or until double in bulk.
  11. Punch dough down and divide in half.
  12. Knead each piece for 1-2 minutes.
  13. Cover and let rest 10 minutes.
  14. Roll each out to an 11 x 7-inch oval.
  15. Fold over in half.
  16. Place on greased cookie sheets, cover, and let rise about 45 minutes.
  17. Bake in a preheated 375 oven 25-30 minutes.
